At Hope House, we often say that our mission is about far more than pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, parenting classes, or baby supplies. Those services are vital, but they are not the reason we exist.
We exist to share the hope of Jesus Christ.
Every day, families walk through our doors carrying fear, uncertainty, brokenness, and questions about the future. We are honored to meet practical needs, but we know that no amount of material support can accomplish what only Christ can do. Lasting peace, healing, and transformed lives are found in Him alone.
It’s easy to assume that everyone living in the Bible Belt has heard the Gospel. Surely, in Southwest Georgia, everyone knows who Jesus is.
But this week, the Lord reminded us otherwise.
A young woman came to Hope House for a pregnancy test after her mother commented that she looked pregnant. Her life had been marked by instability, and she wasn’t even sure when she had become pregnant or who the father might be. Because she couldn’t provide the date of her last menstrual period, she was unable to be seen by her local OB/GYN, so her sister encouraged her to visit Hope House.
We performed an ultrasound and then invited both sisters into one of our counseling rooms.
As our nurse began sharing the Gospel, she asked a simple question:
“Do you know that Jesus loves you?”
The young woman looked back and asked,
“Who is that?”
Her older sister had the same question.
Two women. Raised in our own community. Hearing the name of Jesus explained for the very first time.
Our nurse lovingly shared the message of God’s love, Christ’s sacrifice, and the hope of salvation. While neither sister was ready to place their faith in Christ that day, the seeds of the Gospel were planted. Each received a Bible, was encouraged to begin reading the Gospel of John, and was invited to return with questions or join our weekly Bible study.
From there, the young woman met with our Client Services Director in the Parenting Center, where she learned about parenting education, material assistance, mentoring, and a community of women ready to walk alongside her throughout pregnancy and into motherhood.
She came looking for a pregnancy test.
She left having encountered something far greater.
Because that’s what happens every day at Hope House.
A woman may come seeking answers about a pregnancy, but she leaves knowing she is seen, loved, and valued. She receives compassionate medical care, practical support, and—most importantly—the opportunity to hear the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.
