Bless These Grits

Sometimes ministry looks like a packed classroom. Sometimes it looks like a heartfelt conversation. And sometimes… it looks like a steaming bowl of grits.

Since launching our Father for Life ministry in 2024, we’ve had the privilege of connecting with more than 100 local fathers. While our Saturday morning gatherings haven’t always been the most attended events on the calendar, they’ve consistently been some of the most meaningful. The dads who show up don’t just share a meal—they build friendships, encourage one another, and spend time digging into God’s Word together.

This past Saturday was especially encouraging.

We hosted three new dads, along with several of our dedicated Father for Life advocates, for breakfast and a Bible study led by David Hopkins. Together, they shared honest conversations about fatherhood, faith, and the incredible responsibility—and privilege—of leading their families.

Then came one of those moments that reminds us why this ministry matters.

After class, our Client Services Director, Lauri, received a call from one of our moms. She shared that her husband had thoroughly enjoyed the class and was already looking forward to coming back.

But that wasn’t all.

She said he had one more request…

“Can you get me the recipe for those grits?”

We all laughed, but honestly, that phone call represented something much bigger than breakfast. It represented a dad who felt welcomed. A family that experienced encouragement. A man who left looking forward to returning.

Sometimes the greatest ministry happens around a table.

We’re grateful for every volunteer who showed up, every advocate who invested in these fathers, and every dad willing to spend a Saturday morning growing in faith and community. We can’t wait to see what God continues to do through Father for Life—one breakfast, one Bible study, and yes, one bowl of grits at a time.
