Unlocked Doors

When I first started at the Hope House in 2023, the headlines about firebombed pregnancy centers after the Dobbs decision were still raw. During my first tour, the outgoing director explained the need for automatic locking doors and magnetic code readers to protect staff and volunteers in the event of an active threat. I also learned about our clinic manager’s strong objection to the old policy of keeping the front door locked. She told me, “The women we see are so used to locked doors. I think we send the wrong message if ours is locked too.” I told her I couldn’t agree more, and I was eager to start opening more doors—literally and figuratively—for local moms.

But God opens doors that no man can shut.

Not long ago, our clinic closed the front door for lunch—or so we thought. As the nurses prepared for break, the door swung open and a young woman walked in without an appointment. Our team didn’t hesitate. They welcomed her, provided testing and counseling, and in the midst of their time together, the gospel was shared. That sweet mom accepted Christ right there. When the nurse told us later, she laughed through tears: “Thank God the door wasn’t locked!”

I’m so proud of my team. They could have dismissed the interruption. Instead, they embraced the moment—and her—with open arms, letting God use them to reach a woman who had known far too many slammed doors.

Another story reached me recently, one that intersects with the Hope House in a beautiful way. A single mom who had been driving 45 minutes to attend Embrace Life at Southside Baptist Church decided to go to their Good Friday service. Usually the doors lock once service begins, but that night the back door never latched—because God had other plans. She and another single mom walked through that open door and found the encouragement they desperately needed. She returned all weekend, and eventually came to the Hope House, where one of our nurses welcomed her just as warmly.

To all who partner with us—thank you. You help us keep these doors open for moms and dads across Moultrie who are searching for hope. And the hope we offer is that “hope that does not disappoint” (Rom. 5:5a), made possible “because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit” (Rom. 5:5b).

If you’re looking for a way to get connected—through serving or giving—help us unlock more potential by partnering with us today.
